the table

We have a table, that you have probably seen dozens of times.

Like here:

It lives in the Book Room and is large and sturdy and a crucial part of my sewing regiment. CRUCIAL!

This table, a very nice solid wood {pine? maybe? anyone? Bueller? Bueller?},
we inherited it from some dear friends who didn’t have space for it.

And then I did a happy dance.
{which i am known to do from time to time…like in the middle of my wedding}

Well I finally got around to finishing that loverly piece of super-fabulous tableness.

But before I slapped on my oh-so-favorite 2-in1 stain and polyurethane I decided to add some character.

This table was already beat up. Although solidly constructed,  it had been through the ringer with it’s unfinished bad self.

Nicks, cuts, bumps and bruises, and a real-life straight from Seinfeld coffee ring!
{that shouldn’t thrill me so much, but it does}

So I took a 1/4″ stamping set and pounded a poem into it.

In case you can’t make it out it says:

all that is gold does not glitter,
not all those who wander are lost;
the old that is strong does not wither,
deep roots are not reached by the frost.

from the ashes a fire shall be woken,
a light from the shadows shall spring;
renewed shall be the blade that was broken,
the crownless again shall be king.

It’s from that one book with that one Hobbit that carries that one ring.
{not a huge fan, but me likey the poem heaps}

I pounded, and painted, and finished it with all it’s loverly imperfections.
{coffee ring preserved in all it’s Central Perk, Friends goodness}
