on chores aka the best part of my helper’s life

We’ve reached that age.
We have decided to implement some simple daily chores to instill some responsibility.
For a 4 and a 3 year old it is probably loooong overdue.

I’ve never loved the idea of a chore chart and gold stars.
{don’t get me wrong, i love me some gold stars}
It’s just not my organizational style and it doesn’t quite fit our family.

So, I decided to make my own version of Rachel’s chore chart that she put on her blog Smile and Wave.
I bought a vintage time card rack on etsy and assembled some lovely photo chore cards.

Everyday I put the cards into each kid’s section.
I put them in order, and throughout the day they pull out a card and do the chore pictured.
When they are done, they put them in a section at the bottom labeled Done!

My Helper is all kinds of elated.
{not sure how we ended up with a kid who loves chores and structure, but we’ll go with it}

They are really simple tasks which they were already doing on a daily basis….mostly.
That Clean Up Your Toys card might be the death of The Cadet.
Destruction is his sole aim in life.

Waaay down at the bottom {clipped to my favorite type of magnet} is the kids’ Bible verse for the month.
Again, My Helper is totally into it, The Cadet—not so much.

I made the cards on Photoshop Elements and they are printed on 4×6 photo paper.
At some point, when the Army gives me my Soldier back, I’ll go and get them laminated.
{if i could laminate every item in my house i would, it would save me many hours of cleaning. the cadet loves gross and he is an equal opportunity distributor of nastiness}

Here are a couple of the cards.

{And no, there are not watermarks on the real chore cards}
The jury is still out on whether or not we will do regular rewards.
It’s not a job, it’s a responsibility and most responsibilities in life don’t come with a reward system.
That’s not to say we won’t give plenty of praise and give occasional rewards for faithfulness, but largely this is a reality of life system.

    I LOVE this. The type-A, list-checker-offer, organizational-lover part of me wants to make one for MYSELF. I am totally stealing this idea when I have children. Someday.
