OPSEC is Military Speak for Operations Security. It’s what we use day-in and day-out to keep Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, Sailors & Coast Guardsmen safe. It’s kinda big deal.

Many moons ago we had a family blog but took we it down when The Soldier deployed to Iraq. Although My Soldier was not directly in harms way {praise THE Almighty!} I didn’t want something I posted to put My Soldier or his unit in danger.

The old adage “Loose Lips Sink Ships” is truer today than it was in WWII when it was popular. The blogosphere and interwebs have become a safety concern for those who are out there fighting so we have the freedom to use the blogoshpere and interwebs. The reality of sin means that not everyone cruising the interwebs has the best intentions. [Read: evil people use the internet to terrorize and/or kill members of our military.]

Where am I going with this? Right, safety!! For the sake of My Soldier whom I love more than you, the blogosphere and the whole interwebs, I have certain things that I won’t share on this bligity-blog of mine. {It’s also for our safety if he is deployed. Nothing like advertising to the whole world where you live and that the man with the guns is in Afghanistan using them!}

  1. I will not disclose FULL real names of ANYONE on this blog. Most people on this blog will be nicknamed by my clever little self. I want to keep ALL involved in our daily lives safe
  2. Since I’m sure all 5 of my readers are actually my real life friends {not that you’re not real, and not that we’re not friends, but you’re not on the Christmas card list}, I would ask that YOU not use any of OUR REAL NAMES either (or on your blogs should we be cool enough to be honored in such a way). Also for that reason I have to filter comments.
  3. I’m will not give details of My Soldier’s job, unit, deployment schedule, local etc., etc., and so on. [Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye.] I WILL NOT post any of those things, and a WHOLE MYRIAD of other military related info.
  4. DON’T ASK any of the DETAILS!! I just swore that I wouldn’t tell you and and sticking a needle in my eye is not something I want to do. So, I will say ‘no’, refer you to the crossing of my heart and this very OPSEC page. That’s why it has it’s own page! Huzzah!! It comes full circle!
  5. Minor in comparison, but I still should tell you all {because it’s nice to have full disclosure on your less-than-full disclosure}, I will have to go all photoshoppy on any photos that show his unit insignia, name, rank, or deployed locations.

This PSA has been brought to you by Megan and nap time. Thanks for listening!
